Ribcev Laz

Harry and Max
Had a yarn to our host today about taking the kayaks they had packed away out onto the lake and although I think she thought we were mad she said no problem.

Grabbed the paddles and the kayak skirts and we carried the kayaks about 200m down to the lake.  That was an experience in itself as, in an exercise in sanity preservation, Nicki decided to stay in this morning with a book.  (And to leave me to fend for myself should apartment lady make an appearance).

Bear Nick
That left me trying to herd cats and cart the kayaks down to the lake.  (All the while, possibly, under the direct purview of apartment lady across the road.)

Gave the kids a quick lesson in kayaking techniques when we got to the water which was ultra quick as what I know about kayaks you could fit on the back of a postage stamp.

Finalising my fatherly duties I made them promise not to capsize the kayaks as it was way too cold in the water to come and rescue them.  And I didn't fancy getting wet.
Ride 'em cowboy!

Fortunately the kayaks were very stable and they didn't venture too far from the shore until they got the hang of it.  Nicki made an appearance after the kids had a bit of a go and then we went out into the middle of the lake.  It was very peaceful and calm on the water while we paddled about slowly and enjoyed the serenity of the lake in the autumn air.

Peaceful and calm until we heard the distance roar of a child in pain.

Paddled back to the shore to find that Max had fallen off a rock and cracked his knee.  (No blood, no broken bones, just what exactly is the problem?)  The same child who, for those with long memories, was responsible for us not having a night out in Banja Luka.  Separation issues?

After we carted the kayaks back (and past Apartment Cranky) we had lunch and went searching for the gorge we were meant to be at yesterday.  This time we found it no worries and a quick check of the sign (see photo) showed us where we went wrong.  If only we'd seen this yesterday.

Mostnica gorge - the actual one
Jumped out with Harry and Ryan for a quick half an hour look while Nicki stayed in the car with Mr 'I can't walk another step or my leg will fall off'.

The fork in the river - we took the
left one when we should have gone right
