There's a lake in there somewhere. |
There's a waterfall here called Slap Savica at the end of the lake which is quite special apparently but the tourist girl told us that the road was closed due to the large amounts of rain they've been getting and consequent flooding.
Roadside scenery |
A quick show of hands to see who was coming in the cold and the wet (it was now raining as well as foggy) saw me wander up the last 2 kilometres of rutted back road to the waterfall parking lot by myself. They rest of them entertained themselves with a game of cards in the Kangoo.
Arrived at the deserted ranger station on foot via a back country trail only to find the path to the waterfall was another 30 minutes further. To further deter would-be-tourists ignoring road closures it had warning tape all over the track to ward off those foolhardy enough to get this far.
Bled Castle |
As a back up plan we drove into Bled and in the pouring rain did a tour of Bled Castle which celebrated it's 1000th birthday last year. It's way up on a cliff overlooking the lake and on a sunny day in Slovenia (what are they?) would be rather nice.
Bled Castle - 1001 years old |
Fortunately there was a museum inside the castle and out of the rain so we spent a bit of time in there.
We also got to see a replica of the first printing press ever made in action and the lads got to use it themselves and print themselves some souvenirs.
Home after that for dinner and sat down to write another blog entry.
Checked some emails at about 11pm at night and saw one from the lady we'd organised to rent the apartment off (she was away when we got here) that we are not in her apartment.
WHAT!!!! Where are we?
Left that email unanswered for the time being.
