Ribcev Lav - Bled - Ribcev Lav

Lake Bohinj
Cloudy and overcast today but not to be deterred we set out for a walk along the shore of Lake Bohinj.

The lake sits amongst mountains that rise almost straight out of the water.  It was quite spectacular even with the poor weather.

We walked along the lake shore for about 90 minutes and found ourselves near the other end.  Rather than turn back we decided complete a full lap of the lake even though we were running out of puff.

Harry's under there somewhere
As luck would have it we saw a what looked like a tour bus so we thought we'd ask for a lift back and were pleased to hear it was a public bus.  All up €4.60 for the bus and 10 minutes travel time which saved our legs from another 90 minutes of walking.

Had some lunch back at the apartment and then we drove to Lake Bled which was about 30kms away.  Lake Bled is the defining image of Slovenia due to the little church that sits on an island in the middle of it.

Unfortunately the weather was a bit rubbish so we had to make do with a murky photo taken from near the castle overlooking the lake.

On the way up to the castle we spotted an ice-skating rink and stopped to ask if they were open.

Yes he said, just come back in an hour.  Score!  Ever since we went in Switzerland the kids have been haranguing us in every place we stop to take them again and then acting ripped off when we tell them that not every place has them.

Kitted the boys out with skates and released them out onto the ice.  Blindfolded drunken giraffes in gumboots on the ice would have been more graceful.

Fortunately the bloke who rented us the skates came over and
gave the boys a quick lesson and suggested they push a chair around as that's how all the kids learn to do it.

Lake Bled - complete with church on island

After a while of holding onto the chairs and getting the hang of how your feet push you around they could let go of the sides and had a much better go of it.

Very nice of the gent to take an interest in the kids and come and offer to help when he didn't have to.  Champion.

Someone who can skate and Ryan
