Cavtat - Dubrovnik - Cavtat

Saw some fish in the water last night before dinner at Cavtat so the boys got their Rex Hunt on and went after the big ones.  (50mm-70mm max.)

Dubrovnik
The caught a couple of tiddlers which kept them amused for a couple of hours while Nicki and I enjoyed some coffees and watched the world go by.

After our fishing escapades we drove along the coast to Dubrovnik which was pretty special again.  The air was crystal clear, it's usually a little hazy, and you could see islands far off the Croatian coast.

Parked the car and walked towards the old town but detoured via a pekara (bakery) to get the standard lunch of slices of pizzas and bureks (croatian meat or cheese pastry).  Grabbed those and walked down by the harbour and plonked ourselves down by the water and who should rock up but the Aussie couple and their kids we'd met weeks ago in Pula.

Had a chinwag for an hour or so and talked them into the glass bottom boat tour we were doing out to a nearby island.

Not sure why the boat had a glass bottom as I think we only spotted 2 or 3 fish and barely any plant life or living coral on the sea floor.  On the plus side it was nice to be in a boat and we got to see the city walls from the sea side and get some photos.

The glass bottom thing didn't really matter anyway as our kids got to talk to kids their own age and be loud and silly which is what kids do.

Had a good yarn to Darren and Hayley about their trip (they're going for about 8 months all up) which is going well for them.

Got off the boat and walked around the town and too soon they had to go as they had to catch the last cable car back to their camper van.

Decided not to walk up on the city walls as they wanted €35 for the 5 of us to stroll about.  We can afford it but I'll be buggered paying for that.  (Paying for a walk is near the top on the MG cheapometer scale.  Right up there with paying for bottled water.  Point blank refuse to do it.)

Anyway there was plenty to see inside and we walked the tiny streets and found a nice little restaurant where we had dinner.

It's getting a little chilly now at night so the hostess brought a couple of rakija's (local firewater) to ward off the cold.

Stray observation/whinge.

Australian restaurateurs could learn a thing or two from their Europeans counterparts with regards to good will towards their customers.  Just about every time we go out for a meal here we are offered a drink on the house or a nightcap.  It's a really nice gesture and they seem happy to give it you.

In 25 years of eating out in Australia I can't ever remember one instance when the manager has come over and said 'here, have one on me'.

Dubrovnik from the boat.

Dinner at Ragusa 2.
